Tuesday, June 15th: Technical rehearsal with instrumentalists at Wilshire Presbyterian Church.

Email Policy

To respect members’ privacy, our policy is to not use our email list for personal business. That said, if you want to get updates on performances by our in-house stars, let Darrin or Alison know, and they’ll keep you on their email lists.

A change of plans: We will not be performing at the City of West Hollywood Independence Day event on the 4th of July.

End of Year Party

Possible dates for an end-of-year party:
- Wednesday, June 23rd (our regular rehearsal time)
- Saturday, June 26th

Either way, the party will be in Catherine’s backyard (2 miles from where we rehearse), with a segue indoors to the piano (Emily, we’re counting on you!). Catherine will make a huge pot of chili, everything else will be potluck. Spouses, significant others, and a friend or two are welcome.

Attendance and Section Leaders

Please attend all rehearsals and arrive on time!!

If you absolutely must miss a rehearsal, call your section leader as far in advance as possible.

No matter what catchphrase you use, this is going to be a fantastic concert.
Please do your part to end our inaugural season in triumph and sell sell sell.
Plan on selling at least 10 tickets each.

4th of July Concert

The Chorale will sing on Sunday, the 4th of July around noon at the Plummer Park Independence Day Festival. Performing in West Hollywood is a critical component of maintaining a strong relationship with the City of West Hollywood and ensuring we qualify for arts grants. If you know now that you can’t attend (you already have travel plans, for example) please let us know asap. But we are counting on you being there! Plus, it’s fun and doesn’t take much time. We’ll do Glenn’s arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner, Ragtime, and a couple of other tunes from the concert or easy-to-learn-at-the last-minute trad. American songs.

July 11th Fundraiser

The Chorale will hold its “spring” fundraiser in July: an opera recital by two NY Met singers. It will be held at Nancy Reinisch’s gorgeous home. We will need volunteers for set-up, bartending, and clean-up. (Note: The Chorale will not be performing, but we will need your help!) More info coming soon.

New Music

Check your folders for new music tonight.

Return Welcome Music

Please return your music from our last concert. Just put it in the hanging folder when you get your new music. Anyone who does not return their music by the April 28th rehearsal will be charged for the cost of replacing the music.

Upcoming Sunday Rehearsals

There will be two Sunday rehearsals this concert cycle: On April 25th and May 16th. Both are scheduled at Wilshire Pres from 2 to 5.

Food: No Food Or Drink In The Sanctuary, please, other than water. There will be time for snacks between our rehearsal & the performance.

Music: Return your music immediately after the concert. Empty your concert folder and put your music in your hanging file folder. If you borrowed a concert folder, please return it to me, Reid, Anne, or whoever loaned it to you!

Call time: 4:00 pm sharp. Please be on time to ensure a good warm-up and rehearsal.

Next Rehearsal: Wilshire Pres on Wed April 7 and 7 pm sharp. Yes, it’s spring break and we’re taking a week off.

Marathon Alert

Just a reminder that the L.A. Marathon is Sunday March 21st. There shouldn’t be a problem for our audience at 3pm, but double check the map to make sure you can get to the 1pm Sunday call time at Kol Ami. L.A. Marathon Official Map

A big thank-you to everyone who solicited ads or purchased a “personal” in the concert program to help us reach our fundraising goals.

For all who are interested in auditioning for one of five solos, this is the process:  Glenn will audition interested singers during rehearsal, so if you’re so inclined, you can prepare ahead of time. While we all get to listen, the choice is Glenn’s.

The solos are:
-Frim Fram Sauce, as written or improvised, pages 9-10.
-Welcome to all the pleasures: Alto, pages 9-11; Bass, page 16; Contralto or Tenor, page 22; Tenor, page 24.
-Optional sixth solo: Wanting Memories.

Sara Sinclair will perform the solo in Five Hebrew Love Songs.

Mailing

We should get the flyers for this concert by Monday, February 22. I would greatly appreciate help in sticking on mailing labels and stamps. If a couple of you are available Tuesday afternoon/early evening to come to my place (Catherine’s on Cahuenga south of Melrose), that would be wonderful. Let me know if you are available.

New Music

If you missed Sunday’s rehearsal, Glenn handed out the first three pages of Bloom, the last song we will perform in this concert. Please get your copy from the table at the back of room (they will not be in your music folders). Glenn hopes to have the rest of the pages for everyone on Wednesday.

Parking on Wednesday Nights

Just a reminder to find street parking for the next several weeks so that church-goers can find space in the lot for Wednesday evening services during Lent.

Concert Folders

A few of you have asked me to order concert folders for them. I will be taking orders until March 8th. When I know how many, I will ask you to pay me ahead of time. Then I’ll deliver them as soon as I get them.

For the next 6 weeks or so, members of the Wilshire Presbyterian Church will be attending 7 pm services. So please give yourselves time to find nearby street parking. The church provides the rehearsal space at a very low price and we are very grateful.

Concert Folders

The Chorale will use standard black concert folders (not those nasty three-ring binders) for our concerts. Some of you may already have black concert folders, but all of us will need our own folder for the March 21st concert.

The following websites sell folders, ranging in price from about $19 to $24. At $21.50, I think the one at onlymusicfolders.com is the best and most versatile. You can also find, or order them, from local music stores.

We have scheduled three Sunday rehearsals. Please check your folders for the updated calendar.

Sunday, February 21st.  Tenors and Basses will rehearse from 2 to 4 pm, Sopranos and Altos from 3 to 5 pm.  To make the most of our time, we will probably not have a big break.  (So please bring your own snack if you anticipate starving).   Note:  We are still waiting for approval for this date, but put it on your calendars anyway.

For the June concert: Sunday, April 25th and Sunday, May 16th.

Reminder:  These rehearsals are not optional!

Change in Performance and Call Time

The Sunday, March 21st concert at Kol Ami will be at 3 pm, not 4 pm as originally scheduled.

Our call time will be 1:00 pm.  This doesn’t give us a lot of time, so please be prompt!

Carpool on March 24

Because of other events at Hollywood United Methodist Church, there will be limited parking for our technical rehearsal on Wednesday, March 24th.  Please try to carpool, or you’ll have to find street parking or pay $10 at Hollywood & Highland.

Ads and Personals

We have already sold a couple of ads for the concert program.  Please spread the word and ask the local businesses you patronize, your friends with their own businesses, and family & friends to buy advertising space in our program.  And it’s a two-fer for this concert, since there are two performances.
